Tuesday 22 May

In 1999 Dartmouth Park resident Paddy Wivell made his first film  - about a transvestite prostitute living on Holloway Road  - for a production company in Tufnell Park. (You can’t get more DPFC compliant than that.) The Evening Standard said of the film - For Love or Money - was “first class” and was the “sort of enthralling and provocative documentary that Channel 4 was set up to screen.”

And Paddy hasn’t looked back since. But on Tuesday 22 May he does look back at a career in which he has collected two BAFTAs, survived working with Louis Theroux, and been described by The Times as ‘a filmmaker of such exceptional talent so gifted and unassuming that you scarcely notice how accomplished he is.” And he is still young enough to have children at Brookfield School.

At the next DPFC event on 22nd May he is going to show excerpts from some of his films  - from the first to the most recent. Films which cover a wide range of subjects and experiences and have been described as “intimate”, “inspiring” “brimful of life, joy and sweetness” and “deeply affecting”, among numerous other accolades. Films whose subjects all share one thing in common – the wish, in Paddy’s words “to speak and be heard.” And Paddy will give us a sneak preview of his next film – shot in the men’s prison in Durham.

People pay good money to experience such an exclusive night like this but you don’t have to: it's the same deal – pay what you think the evening is worth, including a glass of wine and some food. Same place and time – 7 pm for a 7.30 pm start:  Highgate Library, Civic Centre, Croftdown Road, NW5 1HB.
